Implemented Projects

  • Implementation of the animation model (PAR) 2020 to date; with support from Twaweza East Africa is applying the participatory action research initiative in generating evidence to form community collective action for informed dialogues, advocacy and influencing from sub county levels to district level for 4 sub counties and 3 Town councils in the Kole. From 2020 to date, AMACOD Uganda has engaged 24 change agents who are community volunteers in generating issues pertinent to the communities. This ranged from improvement of community linkages through improvement of access roads, advocacy for improved delivery of WASH services, more boreholes have been drilled in villages after community led advocacy; health service delivery improvement, climate change advocacy and community action in combating climate change issues as well as community led actions in addressing protection and violence issues.

  • Family Strengthening programme: 2022 to date; now in the design phase, AMACOD Uganda with support from Otem Collective Inc. has conducted a family strengthening baseline which is guiding the design of a family strengthening program addressing household economic strengthening in Kole.

  • Strengthening coordination for energy CSOs in Lango sub region 2019-2021; in consortium with Lira NGO Forum (LNF), CORN, AMACOD Uganda, GLOFORD Uganda and FINASP-Uganda. AMACOD Uganda was instrumental in contributing to the energy and gender section in the manual that was disseminated to the CSOs in Lango sub region.

  • Women in Governance and Leadership Initiative, in partnership with Lira NGO Forum, in these rural communities of Lango districts in Northern Uganda, AMACOD through the initiative empowered the women to contribute to increased women’s participation in Local Government planning and development processes, Leadership and accountability in the 5 districts of Lira, Alebtong, Otuke, Dokolo and Amolatar where women councilors were trained and supported to form women caucuses to enhance their participation in the different councils they served. Mentorship was done quarterly to improve the women leaders’ skills in debates and policies formulation.

  • Strengthening Local Government Financing and Accountability (SLOGFA). SLOGFA is a pro budget advocacy project which is enhancing budget transparency, accountability in Lira district for improved service delivery by 2018.Quarterly budget monitoring were done and dialogue with the district leadership on revenue enhancement. AMACOD Chaired the SLOGFA which comprised of 15 organizations’ that do budget monitoring

  • AMACOD under health programme supports women and children with specialized health care like treatment of hydrocephalous children and other complicated illnesses that require high level medical attention

  • Climate Justice Intervention in Lango sub region; AMACOD Uganda has been working on climate change resilience and advocacy in the districts of Kole, Oyam and Dokolo. The focus was mainly on Climate smart agriculture, land rights advocacy and formalization of ownership for Women (married women, Single and divorced). AMACOD Uganda supported the Lango Cultural foundation to input land ownership for women in the constitutions and also land inheritance policies for Araki and Omolo clans.

  • From lessons learnt, there is need to build an investment case on climate resilience, through which AMACOD Uganda aims at promoting climate justice by addressing land access, utilization and ownership by women in Kole, promoting clean energy using farm waste to make fuel efficient cooking stoves and materials such as charcoal brickette and energy saving cook stoves in a bid to conserve the forest cover. Focus on capacity building on climate change action like Energy governance from a gender perspective, political participation on energy, research, strengthening CSOs energy coordination, community managed reafforestation initiative.

  • In its current participatory action research initiative, the village of Amiabil in Okwerodot sub county Kole district, through its community managed reforestation in responding to its community action plan raised a joint nursery tree seedbed. Progress to date, they have regenerated about 5 acres of degraded land in their village alone; donated over 1000 seedlings to the sub county and also donated to 3 neighboring villages worth 3000 seedlings.
